Ashton Smith is a shareholder based in Lewis Thomason’s Nashville office. As a member of the firm’s Construction Law Practice Group, Ashton practices principally in construction law. Ashton represents architects, engineers, and contractors in a variety of matters, including negotiating design and construction contracts, litigating claims of defective design and construction, and resolving payment disputes. Ashton is also experienced in business transactions, healthcare, regulatory, insurance, real estate, and immigration law. Before joining the firm, Ashton spent several years as in-house counsel at a healthcare company, where he advised senior leadership on healthcare, transactional, corporate governance, property, and regulatory matters. He also previously worked at law firms in Nashville and Knoxville.Ashton is a native of Nashville and graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he was on the Dean’s List multiple semesters and earned CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Business Reorganizations & Workouts and Health Care Law & Regulation.
