About Sasha Gerritson
Biography An opera stage director, Sasha directs shows for many local and regional companies. She was the opera/music theatre director for Northeastern Illinois university for 13 years. Sasha is the Director of Music Ministries at Park Ridge Community Church, where she conducts the choirs and oversees the large and robust Music Ministry. A 2nd degree black belt in shotokan karate, Sasha volunteers as the business manager for the North Shore Dojo in Glenview, six days a week. She won the gold medal in kumite (fighting) in July 2017 and is the national champion in her age division. Sasha serves on multiple charity/non profit boards. She is the immediate past President of the Brookfield Zoo\'s Women\'s Board and serves on the Board of Trustees at DePaul University, as the Vice Chair of the Board. Previously, she was the Co-Founder and Executive Director of L’Opera Piccola, and the Executive Director of a not-for-profit children’s group called The Happiness Club. For a number of years she worked at the Merit School of Music and the Chicago Children’s Choir as a choral conductor. In addition to her degrees from Northeastern and DePaul,(BA, MA, and post grad certificate) Sasha has studied choral conducting at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. In 1998, while attending DePaul University, Sasha was recruited to be the assistant to Maestro Daniel Barenboim at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and at the Staatsoper in Berlin. She held this position for two years. Sasha has enjoyed an extensive solo performing career both as a Soprano and Choral Conductor. Highlights include singing the national anthem at the Cubs game, singing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, singing at the White House and multiple local opera and musical theater productions. Sasha is the recipient of many awards including the Harold Berlinger Award and the Joan Sachs Memorial Award and talent scholarship. She has been featured on Channel 2 as “Someone You Should Know” and was honored in 2005 as the Distinguished Alumna of the Year by DePaul University.
