ABOUT SARWAN KUMAR
Dr. Sarwan Kumar is a Principal Entomologist (Professor) at the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where he has been a part of the academic and research faculty since 2006. Over the years, he has contributed to several research projects funded by prestigious bodies such as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)(PI, Entomology of the project at National level since 2015), BBSRC, UK, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST-SERB), focusing on the host plant resistance and integrated management of insect pests in oilseed crops like rapeseed-mustard. In the winter of 2018, Dr. Kumar undertook a research fellowship at The University of Queensland, Australia, where he collaborated with Prof. Michael Furlong on studies related to plant-pest-natural enemies’ interactions within Brassica systems. He also worked in collaboration with University of York and Rothamsted Research on project related to the genomic improvement of oilseed crops. Dr. Kumar has presented his research at various international conferences, including the International Rapeseed Congresses in Prague, Saksatoon, Berlin and Sydney. His current research focuses on host plant resistance, insect-plant interactions, plant defense mechanisms, and the development of sustainable pest management strategies in broadacre oilseed crops.
