ABOUT SARJU GANATRA
I am a cardiologist and advocate dedicated to integrating sustainability into the core of healthcare delivery and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. As the founding Medical Director of Sustainability at Lahey Hospital and the Founder and President of Sustain Health Solutions, a non-profit organization, I work with healthcare facilities to calculate and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, optimize resource utilization, and implement sustainable practices that align with their operational goals. My passion lies in creating solutions that improve health outcomes while reducing the environmental footprint of healthcare systems. I believe that addressing the social and environmental determinants of health is pivotal to achieving equitable and sustainable healthcare. By focusing on these interconnected factors, I aim to drive impactful changes that enhance both individual well-being and community resilience. In my role as Co-Director of the South Asian Cardio-Metabolic Program and Director of Cardio-Oncology at Lahey, I focus on addressing the unique cardiovascular and metabolic challenges of diverse populations, including the South Asian community, while advancing care for patients undergoing cancer treatment. By integrating culturally tailored care and innovative cardio-oncology strategies, I aim to improve health outcomes and survivorship, reflecting my broader commitment to equitable and patient-centered healthcare. In addition to my clinical and sustainability work, I have expertise in outcomes research, and serve as a Vice Chair in the Department of Medicine for Research where I explore innovative approaches to improving patient care while maintaining a focus on environmental stewardship. My efforts bridge clinical excellence, system efficiency, and a commitment to a healthier planet.Through leadership, collaboration, and innovation, I strive to inspire and empower healthcare organizations, professionals, and communities to adopt sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.
