ABOUT SARHIA RAHIM

I am a recent graduate of Syracuse University, where I earned my B.A. in Policy Studies with a minor in Atrocities and Social Justice Studies. My work focuses on the intersection of policy, community engagement, and storytelling, with a strong commitment to equity and social justice. My experiences span journalism, nonprofit advocacy, and research. As a Community Ambassador with the Center for Justice Innovation, I represent tenants on Syracuse’s Northside by connecting residents to housing resources, city services, and legal supports while contributing to grant writing and program development. My work as a research assistant with Family Lens and SOURCE projects allowed me to conduct archival analysis and oral histories, producing community-centered curricula and storytelling that challenged misrepresentation and highlighted multigenerational perspectives.I also deepened my communications and storytelling skills as a Daily Orange Inclusive Journalism Fellow and Opinion Columnist, where I wrote human-interest stories and op-eds on local issues, and as a STOP Bias Peer Lead, where I facilitated anti-bias training and outreach across campus. At the Allyn Foundation, I researched reproductive justice and youth health policy, creating proposals to address teen pregnancy prevention and access to PrEP.Alongside this work, I have served as Editorial Director for Renegade Magazine, President of the Black Student Union, and now as a SOFSA Fellow, each role reflecting my commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering inclusive dialogue. Looking ahead, I aim to continue bridging policy, media, and advocacy to drive community-based change and expand opportunities for equity and justice.
