About Sara Sandoval
My dream was always to study anything and everything in nature. To follow this dream, I reached for the stars and applied to UC San Diego as a non-traditional, first-generation, transfer student. I joined a lab where I had the amazing opportunity to study the most fascinating creatures: native bees. As I finished up my Master\'s, I found that my passion for science overlapped with my passion to support students. My journey into higher education was set! I am now an experienced educator with a demonstrated history of working in secondary and higher education. I have taught courses for incoming TRiO students at UC San Diego, assisted in high school science and math curriculum at High Tech High North County, and supported first-generation STEM students outside and inside the classroom at CSU San Marcos, and introduced students in San Diego to the world of research at the Salk Institute. Currently I am a PhD Pathways Program Manager at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Sanford Burnham Prebys. I have the wonderful opportunity to guide students to a higher education, right here in La Jolla! At the end of the day, my job revolves around students.
