ABOUT SARAN CAMARA

I am a final-year graduate student at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a 2024 USAID Payne Fellow with a lifelong passion for international development. My focus is on the intersection of international economics, finance, and governance, with regional specializations in Africa and the U.S.Born in Maryland and raised partly in Guinea, I have been shaped by two cultures and a singular passion for global impact. My interest in international development began at age ten, when I witnessed firsthand the transformative work of international organizations in communities. This early exposure inspired my pursuit of an International Baccalaureate Diploma, and later on, my obtention of a Double Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Finance at Manhattan College, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the departmental medal for excellence in Finance, next in merit. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have sought to bridge economic theory with tangible service. I conducted research on climate change and inequality, tutored children at community centers, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, worked as an accounting assistant helping low-income families access rental assistance. Most recently, as a Financial Analyst on the Global Deal Management team at Syneos Health, I gained hands-on experience in financial analysis and cross-sector collaboration within the biopharmaceutical industry.A polyglot by choice, I am fluent in English, French, Soussou, and Maninka, with intermediate proficiency in Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese. I aim to leverage my linguistic and analytical skills to promote effective, sustainable international development policies. I remain driven by a core belief: that public service, when guided by empathy and evidence, can positively transform lives and communities around the world.
