ABOUT SARA MILLER LLANA
As a veteran foreign correspondent and international editor, I’ve spent my career reporting across nearly 50 countries, from the Brazilian Amazon to the Canadian Arctic, bringing depth, humanity, and global context to some of the world’s most defining stories. My work as a bureau chief has taken me through major geopolitical shifts and crises, including the aftermath of Haiti’s 2010 earthquake, the 2014 conflict in Ukraine, the death of Hugo Chávez, and the rise of ISIS in Europe. In 2024, I co-created and led The Climate Generation, a six‑part global project that earned a Society for Features Journalism award, adding to two Overseas Press Club citations for investigations in Cuba and Panama.Previously based in Paris and Mexico City as the bureau chief for Europe and Latin America, I draw on a background shaped by a Fulbright scholarship I won to conduct research, degrees from the University of Michigan and Columbia Journalism School, and reporting in English, French, and Spanish. As a deputy international editor, I also help lead a global team of more than 20 editors and writers, generating story ideas, shaping coverage for the world desk, and mentoring emerging journalists while fostering a collaborative, high‑performing editorial culture. I’m driven by a commitment to nuanced storytelling that illuminates complexity and connects people across borders.
