About Sarah Slobin

I\'m a visual/data journalist, I work at the intersection of data, news and storytelling. I\'m currently working on special projects within the graphics desk at Reuters. I have been honored to on teams that won the Pulitzer. My early career was spent at The New York Times, where I learned graphics and news with some of the best journalists in the world. At the NYT I worked my way through all the majors news desks. My last assignment was as editor managing the graphics team for the business section. I left the Times to be the infographics director at Fortune and to learn to make magazines. Fortune was an expansive time for me creatively and I was lucky to work with our colleagues at CNNMoney as well as be part of the team that redesigned the Fortune.com. Next, I was a visual editor at the Wall Street Journal. Over six years at the Journal my work spanned from deep data dives to long-form multimedia pieces to new social products to straight-forward infographics. I was the editor for the Business & Tech section, followed by the Money & Investing section, the \'Wall Street\' part of The Wall Street Journal. Following the WSJ I did a tour at Quartz, where I ran the Things team, contributed to a book, and worked to raise the level of visual storytelling in the newsroom. I am story-form agnostic, committed to experimenting, and most engaged when I am stretching boundaries. Paying it forward is critical to me. I am in my 5th year teaching Data Visualization for the New School\'s Journalism + Design program.

   I teach Data Visualization to undergrad students at The New School\'s Journalism + Design program. It\'s a fundamentals class where we pack of ton of learning in around working with data, finding a story in it and being able to construct charts and other visualizations.
