   Originally hired into the Engineering chapter at 18F (a technology and design consultancy operating within the federal government), I quickly transitioned to a combination researcher-designer-developer role within 10x, a similar team within the Technology Transformation Service that operates as a venture studio within government. As the team\'s sole \"Front-End Designer\", I design and build interactive prototypes and websites in addition to research and discovery activities as we work to build new technology solutions for the American public in a funding-gated, agile-first, 4-stage process. I\'m wildly passionate about this work; the idea has to be impactful and feasible at every step in order to earn additional funding and energy to build a solution. I get to bring my skills to bear from the very beginning of projects, performing stakeholder and user interviews, competitive market analyses, feasibility studies, multiple prototypes of varying fidelities, and even production code and scaling to deliver innovative technology to hundreds of millions of Americans and the federal agencies that serve them. At 10x, I have the unique challenge of building best-in-class software within one of the oldest, biggest and most complex organizational systems in the world, with an absolutely massive reach where hitting the mark is crucial. But technology isn\'t the whole story. It\'s essential that I and my colleagues work directly with the affected populations to understand how they are interacting with the federal government. After all, there\'s no \"competitor\" for a citizen to fall back on. As civil servants, take our responsibility to the American public seriously, and we\'re passionate about staying clear-headed and objective, even while we\'re tackling big, transformational ideas. I\'m so proud to be a hybrid, cross-functional technologist impacting every stage of the innovation R&D process. There\'s nobody quite like us in all of government.
