Built consensus with SSM St. Mary’s Hospital administration, Emergency Department leadership, and physical therapy leadership to establish a physical therapy practice in the Emergency Department. The goal of emergency physical therapy is to improve patient care in the emergency setting, improve patient outcomes, decrease unnecessary hospitalizations (outpatient observation patients) and increase health system profitability by introducing patients to their outpatient physical therapy clinics.
