ABOUT SARAH MARTYN

As Director of People & Organisational Development at Hendy Group, a family-owned business for over 160 years, our success could not have been achieved without our people. It was a big decision to take a ‘permanent ‘role given that I made a conscious decision to become a ‘career interim’ which I had enjoyed for almost 20 years. But I have never looked back. Prior to that I managed to combine my career in HR and change management specialising in the early days in outsourcing, mergers and acquisitions, with my desire to travel and experience different cultures. I’ve always felt it important to do what felt right and taking a different career path at that time worked for me. During this time, I played a key role in several change programmes for a range of service sector clients including; Land Securities, Trillium Telecom; CTIL (Cornerstone); Ericsson Services Ltd; AXA Health & Horizon Nuclear Power and was fortunate to work with some extraordinary people, a number of whom continue to be mentors, confidantes and trusted colleagues. Now, in my role at Hendy, my range of experience informs and shapes the people and learning agenda and I am proud of what the team have achieved since 2019, despite some of the obvious challenges. Our vision is to create 100% colleague experience and this year we have made significant strides towards this and to be a world-class employer. A significant part of our plan is the investment in our Hendy Academy which provides learning for everyone from our colleague essentials curriculum through to our CMI recognised and IMI accredited leadership development programme. Over 90% of our training and development for our colleagues is delivered internally and we encourage self-led learning by providing on-line learning materials in addition to support from my brilliant learning & development team. I am passionate about our learning agenda, helping others to ‘fly’ and to creating an inclusive environment for everyone to achieve their potential.
