About Sarah Locknar

I am in essence, a doer. I enjoy hard work and seeing ideas come to fruition. Even when I’m not at work, I am fixing things, doing home improvements or crafts. I constantly think about how to do things better. How do I get things done? I am a relentless question asker. I want to understand how and why things are done the way they are before I launch into thoughts about solutions. In general, people who understand the process best and have the best ideas are the ones doing the task every day. In other words, I want to hear from other doers about what they do. After hearing from other doers from various sides of a problem, I can get a bigger picture of the task at hand and how to tackle it. Oftentimes, this involves bringing together a team of people who want to get the job done. I hate the expression “we can’t.” Resourcefulness and tenacity can solve many problems if the will is there. I have tackled projects in B2B scientific marketing, optical spectroscopy, microscopy, optical metrology, imaging, neuroscience, flow cytometry, fluorescence, vacuum science, process engineering, organic photovoltaics and thin-film materials. My other major focus is communication- after all, why do something if no one knows it’s been done? I am a prolific writer and constantly encourage others to write internal reports and content for external consumption (white papers, webpages and the like). I love breaking down knowledge silos and advocate for open communication within a company and between departments. I strongly believe that if a company is to be successful, everyone from the cleaning people to the CEO should know what the goals are in the organization and the general plan forward. As the African proverb says “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. Communication brings people together and helps them go farther than ever before.
