About Sarah Driscoll
Hi! I\'m Sarah Driscoll, an undergrad at Vanderbilt University, studying Chemical Engineering and Climate Studies. My research pursuits began when I worked at the Vanderbilt Institute of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) where I helped restore lab equipment and advanced processes for growing graphene. I later joined Dr. Piran Kidambi’s lab where I worked on synthesizing 2-D nanostructures and improving proton exchange membranes. My passion for chemistry and clean energy led me to internships at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory with Dr. Simon Bare to enhance fluorescence detector setups for catalysis. Now, at MIT I am testing nuclear fluid coolants with Dr. Koroush Shirvan to make nuclear reactors safer and more economical. Between these experiences and my summer internships, I have recognized the growing need for green energy and I’m excited by the prospect of researching to discover the solution. Studying abroad in Copenhagen to explore climate solutions made me especially excited about researching engineering solutions to energy challenges. My dedication to science communication has earned me awards like second place at the ORISE IGNITE Off! competition. With proven research and communication skills, I am ready to make a positive impact as a part of a Ph.D program and eventually lead my own research group. Undergraduate researcher in the Kidambi Lab in Vanderbilt University\'s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I am working on the bottom-up synthesis of two-dimensional conjugated nanostructures. My focus is to understand the effect of catalyst crystallinity on the resulting nanostructures with a goal to make perfectly defined periodic structures within a single atom thick layer.
