ABOUT SARAH DOWZELL
I went from cleaning toilets to becoming a multi-award-winning HR tech entrepreneur, scaling and exiting a business I built from scratch. In 2009, while running my cleaning business, I searched for a system to track employee details and timesheets. All I found were complex enterprise tools that were unsuitable for SMEs. Together with my husband and co-founder, Jason Dowzell, we developed our own solution called Natural HR. The tool that solved my problem then became our business. We initially bootstrapped before raising a total of £1.6m in VC investment and grew to a team of 50 by the time Moorepay acquired us in March 2023. Having recently left in June 2025, I\'m taking some time out before returning to tech (yes, that means I plan to embark on the startup journey again!). Until then, I\'m building a brand focused on sharing the real story of entrepreneurship, beyond the highlight reel. I speak openly about startup life, leadership, and what it takes to grow and leave a company - my first baby! And that\'s before we get to the reality of raising two human children who have experienced the startup-to-exit journey alongside us.
