ABOUT SARAH WALKO

Sarah Walko is an artist, director, curator and writer. She is currently the Director of Visual & Performing Arts at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. Previously she was Director of Education & Community Engagement at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Director of Arts Programming at Marble House Project, Executive Director of Triangle Arts Association and Curator of Savannah College of Art and Design. Her visual artwork has been published by The Dirty Goat, Redivider, Blood Lotus, 2 River, A Capella Zoo, Awosting Alchemy, 5×5 Literary Magazine, Bathhouse, Conceptcion Books, Cincinnati Review, Host Publications, In Layman\'s Terms, Carrier Pigeon, Split Lip Mag, A Minor Magazine, Autumn House Press, Rock Salt Journal and many more. Recent exhibitions include Between the Feast and the Ground is Where We Live Now at the Taiwanese American Arts Council House on Governors Island, Urban Reverence at Valerie Goodman Gallery in New York, Case Studies at Gallery Aferro, So That I Might Speak to You of Your Magnificence at the Hudson Valley College, Raising the Temperature at the Queens Museum of Art, Preternatural at the Museum of Nature in Canada, and Codex Dynamic Film Exhibition on the Manhattan Bridge Anchorage in New York.She has participated in many artists residency programs including the inaugural The First Ten, New Hope Artist Residency Program, an inaugural participant in Art For Good: HATCHING A Better World program, IPark and The Elizabeth Foundation. She was invited visiting artist at Savannah College of Art and Design, Roger Williams College and Hudson Valley Community College. Her 2nd film Lux/Nox, co written and directed with artist collaborator Malado Baldwin screened at Fair Play Festival in Miami Art Week. She continues to do freelance curatorial projects such as Voice at Spring Break Art Fair in NYC, Approaching Vibrancy: A Survey of New Jersey Artists at Morris Arts, A Cage Went in Search of a Bird at Radiator Gallery and The World and It’s Things in the Middle of Their Intimacy at Fridman Gallery in New York. She is a continuing NYFA Immigrant Artists Mentor within the mentorship program. Her fiction and non fiction essays have been published by While Whale Review Literary Journal, Drain Magazine, Eyes Towards the Dove and Hyperallergic Art Blog. In 2022 her nonfiction essay Mysterium was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She is a contributing writer in four anthologies: Sacred Promise (Women Changing the World Press), Neon Guides Me (Praun & Guermouche), Royal Beauty (Arts by the People) and Transpecies Design (Routledge).
