About Sarah Torres
Sarah Torres is a proud Bronx native and a member of the Syracuse University Class of 2026, where she is double majoring in Political Science and Journalism. She is a Campaign Outreach Social Media Intern with AARP and a Next Generation Service Corps Summer Policy Academy Fellow. She currently serves as Vice President of the Puerto Rican Student Association. In the Fall, she will assume the roles of President, Treasurer, Academic Chairwoman, and Fundraising Chairwoman of the Rho Chapter of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. On campus, she also works as a peer mentor with the InclusiveU program and as a student assistant at the Newhouse Services Desk. In Fall 2024, Sarah studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, where she held two positions within the Syracuse office and took every opportunity to explore in her free time. The summer before her junior year, she gained hands-on political and communications experience as a Fellow with Eleanor’s Legacy, a campaign organizer, and the Media and Communications Coordinator for a New York City Council Member. Sarah previously served as Vice President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists at Syracuse and worked as a Research Assistant for the Tale of Two Cities documentary project. Before her sophomore year, she interned at City & State New York / NYN Media, where she reported on city politics and the nonprofit sector. She also held a retail position with the GAP. Her passion for advocacy started early. In high school, she held internships across government offices, political campaigns, a community-based environmental justice organization, and a position as a sales associate. Sarah is deeply committed to uplifting historically underserved communities. She hopes to return to her hometown to lead efforts in political advocacy, equitable policy, and community building.
