ABOUT SARAH TIERNEY
I have twenty-six years of experience as a college admissions consultant and have helped hundreds of students gain acceptance to Ivy League universities as well as other elite colleges such as Stanford, MIT, Oxford, and Cambridge. During my sixteen years as an alumni interviewer for my alma mater, Harvard College, I worked closely with the Harvard Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I have also worked for Northwestern University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an Application Reader, evaluating applications and making admission recommendations. Since 2001, I have consulted to the admissions offices of schools such as the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia, helping them to develop their recruitment strategies and admissions materials. At Harvard College, I majored in English and American Literature and Language, ultimately graduating magna cum laude while concurrently enrolled at the New England Conservatory of Music, studying bassoon performance. I earned a Master of Management degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, concentrating in marketing, management strategy, and organizational behavior. Before focusing exclusively on college admissions, I was an account executive with the global advertising agency Leo Burnett, where I marketed extensively to teens, and was an operations manager with the world-class Chicago Symphony Orchestra. A former professional bassoonist, I was one of six musicians in the United States to be named a 1984 United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts, which culminated in a solo performance in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
