About Sarah S.
I’m an astrophysics student, exoplanetary researcher, science communicator, and musician, passionate about community service and STEM education. I am a second-year Ph.D. student in Physics with an Astrophysics Concentration at the University of New Mexico. I am pursuing exoplanetary research as a New Mexico Space Grant Graduate Research Fellow, working as a teaching assistant (currently for the Physics of Music course, and formerly for introductory astronomy labs), volunteering at the UNM Campus Observatory, and serving as an officer in the Physics and Astronomy Graduate Student Association and the Women in Physics, Astronomy, and Optics organizations. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona in May 2024 with Bachelor\'s Degrees in Astronomy and Physics, with Honors in Astronomy from the W.A. Franke Honors College. While at UA, I was involved in research projects in astronomy education, science literacy, and exoplanet atmospheric modeling. I also did a REU at UNM in the summer of 2022, examining the compositional links between rocky exoplanets and their host stars. At UA, I served as a peer leader for the TIMESTEP program, represented my colleges as a College of Science Ambassador and Franke Honors Ambassador, and worked as a Planetarium Operator and Science Center Interpreter at the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium. I received awards for academics, extracurricular involvement, outreach, and research during my undergraduate career, most notably the Stamps Scholarship and the 2023 Astronaut Scholarship. If you would like to contact me, my email is s••••••@unm.edu.
