ABOUT SARAH MILLAR
As Chief Executive of Quality Meat Scotland, i work with the Scottish red meat supply chain to increase the value of their products. I am responsible for and am the accountable officer for governance, finance, delivering our strategic aims and objectives and working with the team at QMS to ensure they are enabled to lead their own teams as effectively as possible. I am passionate about demonstrating what we can do as a supply chain to deliver sustainably produced protein from our Scottish resources to secure food security during a climate and biodiversity crisis. My involvement and passion for the red meat sector started with growing up on the family livestock farm in Lanarkshire. During my teenage years i worked in our family butchery business, selling locally produced organic meat at farmers markets and in independent retailers all over Scotland. I then studied at Scottish Agricultural College Auchincruive, achieving a honors degree in Green Technology- a degree that focused on the sustainable agriculture, the bio-economy, and environmental economics. My career has spanned multiple parts of the Scottish farming supply chain, including working for multi-national businesses, and in an advisory capacity to primary producers, specilising in adding value, diversifying routes to market and agri-environment schemes. I have been involved in an advisory capacity to The Scottish Government on the development of post brexit rural policy as a member of the National Council of Rural Advisors reporting to Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity, and as a member of the Food and a Farming Advisory Group advising on post Brexit agricultural policy >2024.I have significant public speaking experience, having spoken at a diverse range of events both in the UK and in Europe, including as a debate panellist, a keynote speaker, an after dinner speaker and as a chairperson of specialist events.Winner of the Young Advocates For Agriculture award in 2012Winner of the RHASS Presidents Initiative in 2010Scotland Food and Drink Young Talent Finalist 2012.
