ABOUT SARAH MCINERNEY
I am an outgoing, enthusiastic educator and trainer. I pride myself on being an effective networker and communicator, able to adapt to any situation to ensure the most effective outcome and enjoyable learning experience for all. Throughout my life as an educator I have worked across cultures, disciplines, and countries exploring the complex relationship between people and the natural world. This relationship is constantly adapting, and I believe that through a lens of creativity, innovation, and laughter we can design our way to a more sustainable and fruitful future for all. As a biomimicry fellow, I spend my time exploring the genius of the natural world to solve a variety of technical challenges. I have designed and led numerous education and innovation sessions within academic, corporate, and natural settings with audiences from Fortune 500 companies to K-12 students. With every experience, I am reminded of the creative potential of connecting interdisciplinary teams to work together to design a world that is more efficient, elegant, and sustainable. As a humble biologist and educator my goal is to become a translative bridge that works on the edges of biological science, R&D and innovation. Through my PhD, as a corporate sponsored Biomimicry fellow, I am focused on understanding the hurdles faced by industry during the adoption and implementation of biomimicry as a design process for environmental sustainability. I hope to not only contribute to the current biomimicry knowledge but to create a springboard to connect biologists, educators, and innovators alike.
