ABOUT SARAH ALFIERI MCALEXANDER
Sarah McAlexander, AuD, ABAC is a passionate and enthusiastic board certified pediatric audiologist, currently working for Texas Hearing Institute, a non-profit clinic and preschool serving children with hearing loss in Houston, TX. Her primary interests include early identification and intervention, cochlear implants, and serving children with multiple disabilities. She graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) in May 2021 with her Doctorate of Audiology and a specialization in Early Identification and Management of Children with Hearing Loss. She has also received additional training in cochlear implants, recently completing coursework through the Institute for Cochlear Implant Training (ICIT). Prior to attending VUSM, Dr. McAlexander graduated from Vanderbilt University in May 2017, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Disability Studies and Child Studies, as well as a minor in History of Art. Her background in disability studies and special education has given her a unique perspective on the population she serves, including a detailed understanding of the IEP process, the educational impacts of hearing loss, and the best ways to serve patients with multiple disabilities.Dr. McAlexander is passionate about student education, research, and involvement in professional organizations. She currently serves the American Academy of Audiology as a member of the Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) Advisory Committee, after completing two terms as a member of the SAA Board of Directors as a student. She recently presented for students on adjusting to post-graduate life at the annual conference in 2022, and has presented research on newborn hearing screening at various conferences.
