About Sarah Goldstein
I am a licensed clinical social worker and currently work at JCCA practicing an evidence based model, Child Parent Psychology. Here is a little bit more about my career thus far, For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to work in the field of family therapy. As my resume highlights, I dedicated several years of research to focusing on parent-child relationships, sibling relationships, and expectations of romantic relationships. I have worked with children of all ages, in a variety of settings, and from a range of cultures and backgrounds. My clinical skills have been enhanced through my experiences at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Jewish Board of Family and Children\'s Services, Planned Parenthood, JCCA, and many other organizations. I have worked in schools and social welfare agencies where my commitment to the field of social work has been empowered. I have experience providing individual and family therapy, and facilitating a myriad of therapeutic groups including social skills, anger management, and relationship restoration. I have a wide range of experience in the child welfare system, including working in Foster Care and in Preventive Services. As a caseworker in Treatment Family Foster Care, I used trauma-informed practice to address the needs of children and adolescents in foster care who had significant behavioral and mental health concerns, while working towards their permanency goals and educational and vocational goals. In General Preventive services, I worked as a therapist assisting families who may have been struggling with family conflict, substance abuse, intimate partner violence, mental illness, behavior challenges, truancy, and children who are at risk of abuse and neglect. The services are family-centered, strength-based, and culturally-sensitive in their goal to defuse potential conflicts, minimize incidences of violence, and promote the well-being of children and families. I am trained in the evidence based model, Child Parent Psychotherapy, a successful family intervention for young children who have experienced trauma. As a result of the trauma they have experienced, many of the children experience mental health, attachment, and/or behavioral problems. Through parent-child dyadic play therapy I support the family in restoring the child’s sense of safety and attachment while improving cognitive, behavioral, and social functioning. I build on families’ strengths to equip and empower them to manage their children on their own, within their community, and promote the safety of the children and families.
