Sarah Gelsomino joined Friedman and Gilbert as a partner in 2016. Sarah concentrates her practice on civil rights cases, including police and government misconduct, particularly representing individuals who have been killed, brutalized, sexually assaulted, illegally searched or arrested by law enforcement. Sarah’s practice is also dedicated to First Amendment litigation, criminal defense, and representing incarcerated people in post-conviction proceedings and in challenging the conditions of their confinement. She has represented victims of police torture both in post-conviction proceedings and in civil rights lawsuits. Through her post-conviction work, Sarah has represented innocent clients who have been exonerated and released from prison. She also represents transgender and queer individuals profiled and discriminated against as a result of their gender identity. She has helped secure millions of dollars for her clients.
