ABOUT SARAH CHAWLA
I was born an artist. Art has been my passion for as long as I can remember. My career aspirations always revolved around art, from wanting to be a painter in elementary school, then an art teacher in middle school, until I discovered what designers do in high school and realized my calling.I’ve seen art all over the world (23 countries and counting) and have realized it’s a universal way to communicate. Even when there are language barriers, visual expression can communicate ideas, emotions, societal struggles, and history. Art has always been my primary form of expression. I found my words when I joined speech and debate in high school. Prior to that, I was a shy wallflower who dealt with speech issues. Initially, I didn’t speak much with words, but I spoke volumes through my art. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been honing my art and visual communication skills which have led me to become a designer. I’ve had informal experience with various forms of art my whole life, but I also have formal Graphic and UX Design experience. Through my case studies, you can see UX projects I’ve worked on which entails research, prototyping, user testing, and visual design. Additionally, I’ve created print materials like brochures, books, posters, business cards, and a board game. I have branding experience and have designed logos and worked on complete advertising campaigns. When I’m not designing, I\'m usually doing something else visual like painting, screen printing, fashion design, or up-cycling. I’m happiest when I’m creating and I love to experiment with different mediums. Aside from art, I travel, play tennis, and hike in my spare time. I want to make the physical world a better place as an environmentalist, and want to improve the virtual world by creating intuitive, beautiful, and inclusive designs. I love the visual aspect of graphic design, but I’m also interested in the technological and psychological side of human-computer interaction. I’m still finding my right path and going forward with an open mind. I am eager to learn anything and everything.
