ABOUT SARAH BENNETT

As a life-long Utah resident I am passionate about the spectacular landscapes of our state, the wide-open spaces that keep us fit and healthy, and the trails and access to those landscapes that have helped shape our economy and make our communities such great places to live. I witnessed the explosion of interest in outdoor recreation first-hand through the 80s and 90s and found myself writing about it through those decades. As the author of four biking guide books, I have researched, ridden, and written about trails throughout much of the West and watched communities embrace trails to varying degrees. Earning a policy certificate at Utah State University in Natural Resources and Environmental Policy, gave me perspective and appreciation for public lands management. I remain dedicated to preserving both trail access and open space believing that they are critical to maintaining the outstanding quality of life we enjoy in Utah In 2014 I co-founded Trails Utah, a non-profit organization dedicated to trail advocacy, planning, funding and construction in Utah. Trails Utah works to facilitate partnerships and funding opportunities among land managers, governmental entities, and trail user groups to achieve responsible, sustainable trail development that can meet recreational needs and help to protect our natural resources. I am currently Executive Director of Trails Utah working to grow the organization and expand our capacity to aid communities throughout the state with developing trails and healthy, outdoor recreation activities.
