ABOUT SARAH BEEBOUT
I am an agricultural systems scientist with over 20 years of research and leadership experience at the nexus of global food security, nutrition, climate change, and sustainability. I am passionate about farmer livelihoods, healthy ecosystems, affordable access to healthy food options, environmental justice, and mitigating suffering associated with climate change. I specialize in leading change in scientific organizations to improve research impact. My approach is to prioritize research strategies focused on delivering solutions, engage stakeholders across multiple sectors and cultures, inspire scientists to transdisciplinary collaboration, and uphold research quality and integrity. I am committed to integrating social science with biophysical science research efforts starting with how research questions are formed. My work supports people in the food system: agricultural producers (landowners and laborers), rural communities, urban communities, and those who process, sell, cook, and eat food. Most of my academic publications fall under two broad topics: 1) soil redox chemistry as it applies to plant nutrition, human nutrition, food safety, and environmental impact; 2) defining and measuring agricultural system sustainability, including economic, social, and environmental aspects. Professional highlights include 15 years living in South and Southeast Asia while working on rice cropping systems and 6 years in national leadership in US agricultural systems (crop and livestock).
