About Sara A. Snyder
Land Acknowledgment: Works on the traditional and ancestral land of the Massachusett Nation. Evidence-based clinical psychology, public health, & health equity practitioner-researcher. Work focuses on the psychosocial health of trauma-exposed persons, forcibly displaced persons, and war-exposed persons. Snyder has been a PI on several behavioral studies, conducted international fieldwork, assisted with RCTs, developed M&E plans, investigated ways to build capacity in under-resourced/-utilized areas, published several peer-reviewed articles, and trained 80+ research assistants. Dr. Snyder holds two global health degrees from Columbia University, a: MPH in Public Health & Humanitarian Assistance, and MA in Global Mental Health & Trauma (mentored by Les Roberts, Mike Wessells, and Lena Verdeli). She also holds a clinical psychology doctorate (PsyD) from Long Island University. Prior projects include: 1) RCT in Jordan’s Za’atari Refugee Camp & urban pockets assessing psychosocial case management; 2) formative evaluation of a psychosocial & livelihoods support program for former Lord’s Resistance Army child soldiers; 3) monitoring & evaluation plan to assess literacy & numeracy gains for programs in Rwanda resettlements; 4) grant to increase mental health care access for women in the UAE; and 5) re-design of HoNOS for a Middle Eastern Refugee population. Domestic work focuses on police brutality/disproportionate loss of marginalized groups at the hands of police and equitable mental healthcare access. Research interests include: Global Mental Health (GMH), psychosocial health in (post)-conflict settings, indigenous persons, displaced persons, war-affected youth, monitoring & evaluation, instrument/treatment adaptation, capacity-building/ task-shifting, low and middle-income countries (LMIC), sub-Saharan Africa, and community-based interventions. Dr. Snyder aims to be an active agent in GMH and health equity by focusing on projects that increase psychosocial well-being of forcibly displaced and violence-exposed persons globally. Clinically she practices as a trauma psychologist. Dr. Snyder believes in active and transparent collaboration, culturally-informed tools and interventions, equitable and monitored distributions of health, open-access literature, and the principle of \'Do No Harm.\'Publications:
