WORK HISTORY
Software Developer @Morgan Stanley
London, GB
Developing software primarily in Java and Scala used by traders internationally for sourcing stock for short selling.• Querying databases and writing SQL statements for use in troubleshooting and in processes retrieving data.• Analysing pre-existing code and infrastructure in order to determine the best way to implement new features or resolve bugs.• Engaged in software maintenance to keep dependencies and projects up to date as well as overhauling legacy projects that have had little to no change over the last 10+ years.• Took on the role of Alert Reduction Champion for the trading space. This involves looking at the different processes that are raising alerts, analysing why the alerts are happening, analysing the code responsible and coming up with a fix to either: automate the handling of the alert or fixing the issue that is causing it should it be due to a bug. As Alert Reduction Champion I contributed to the reduction of alerts by 30% in the last quarter.• Developing in an agile environment using tools such as jira and rally to track sprint activity and prioritise work.• End to end development from discussing requirements with the product owners, to analysing the code, writing, testing, and eventually deploying the code to the production environment.

ABOUT SARA PHILIPSON
For the last 2 years I have been working as a professional software developer involved in end-to-end development which has contributed greatly to my knowledge and skills and further cemented my desire to work and build a long term career in this field. I look forward to continuing to grow my skillset and continuing to positively impact the business with the software I help to create.Prior to this I gained a Master’s in Computer Science refining my skills in problem solving, organization, and analytical thinking. This built on the foundation laid down by my time as a candidate specialized recruiter in Japan and my undergraduate in Japanese Studies. Having spent two years engaging with the job market I made the strategic decision to move into the field of technology not only due to the future potential of the sector but also due to my love of learning and solving problems.
