About Sara Nowinski
Mitochondria are multifunctional organelles that play crucial cellular roles in metabolism and signaling and their dysfunction is increasingly implicated in many common and rare diseases. My research interests focus on understanding how cells sense and acclimate cellular metabolism to meet their metabolic, growth, and proliferative needs. My lab studies the mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis (mtFAS) pathway as a uniquely powerful window into the regulation of mitochondrial function, and how changes in mitochondrial metabolism control cell differentiation, fate determination, and effector cell function.
