About Sara Magness
Sara Magness is a writer and director whose work blends social realism with absurdism to uncover the surreal undercurrents of everyday life. Shaped by many moves and travel across the U.S. and abroad, her films explore moral and emotional gray areas with restraint and emotional precision. Born in Miami and raised in Chicago, Magness studied English Literature at UCLA before touring as a saxophonist and transitioning into film. She produced the indie feature The Sentimental Engine Slayer (2010) and later directed the absurdist short All Ear Is Dread Hear. Her latest short, Angel Hair (2024), continues her interest in observational storytelling, ambiguity, and transformation. She is currently Director of Narrative Production at Revery and is developing multiple feature projects.
