ABOUT SARA LEILA SHERMAN

I’m an arts educator, author, and creative leader dedicated to expanding access to transformative musical experiences—for all ages and learning styles. As Executive Director of Mozart for Munchkins, I’ve developed programs for the former Lincoln Center Kids initiative, as well as the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, Hudson Yards, and more—crafting experiences that bring the power of music to multigenerational audiences in ways that are joyful, accessible, and deeply human. My work spans live performance, curriculum design, and community engagement—from sensory-friendly and multilingual residencies to professional development for teachers and teaching artists. In 2020, I founded the Little Mozart Foundation, which supports music access in underserved and neurodiverse communities, guided by the belief that music is not a luxury—it’s a right. As coauthor of Resonant Minds: The Transformative Power of Music (Rowman & Littlefield, 2025), I explore how music supports memory, attention, emotion, and connection across diverse contexts—from early childhood to elder care. I also contribute to Psychology Today, where I write about music as a whole-brain, whole-life tool, grounded in neuroscience and applied in real-world settings. My work has been featured on NBC, in the New York Times, and on top podcasts—including Something You Should Know—where I’ve spoken on topics ranging from music and well-being to executive function, creativity, and neurodiverse learning. I’ve led partnerships with school districts, arts organizations, and cultural centers, and developed MindUP for Music, a curriculum with The Goldie Hawn Foundation to merge music and mindful action. My programs integrate arts and neuroscience in educational settings across the country, including school assemblies, orchestral collaborations, and creative residencies. My approach is collaborative, future-focused, and equity-driven. I lead with heart, rigor, and vision—whether designing an interactive family concert, co-developing arts based initiatives, or building long-lasting partnerships in education. Above all, I believe music is a civic force—one that can help us build more connected, creative, and compassionate communities.
