ABOUT SARA GOODMAN
Sara Goodman, MPH, Ph.D. is an epidemiologist with interests in infectious disease epidemiology and global health. She has a Bachelor’s of Music Education (violin/viola) from the University of Illinois (2011), her Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health (2015), and her Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of California, Irvine (2022).Dr. Goodman volunteered in the United States Peace Corps in Burkina Faso, West Africa, where she found her passion for public health. She then completed her master’s in public health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, concentrating in epidemiology and biostatistics, and earned a graduate certificate in Global Health. She has worked professionally with five state and local health departments, including Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, the California Department of Public Health, Santa Clara County, and Orange County.She conducted her doctoral research on socioeconomic factors and public health surveillance of hepatitis C in Orange County and earned her Ph.D. in public health from the University of California, Irvine. Since June 2022, she has worked at the Stanford School of Medicine as a research epidemiologist for Dr. Bonnie Maldonado, working on infectious disease research, specifically on COVID-19, polio, and influenza. At Stanford, she also worked on CDC projects such as the Respiratory Virus Transmission Network-Sentinel study, for which she was a co-author on the 2024 CDC Sheppard Award-winning paper for assessment. In her free time, Sara enjoys fiber arts (quilting, sewing, cross-stitching, knitting, and crocheting), snorkeling, hiking, baking, and playing with her rescued Siamese mix cat, Freya. She is also an avid online trivia player and even competed as a contestant on Jeopardy! In 2014.
