Backed by 14+ years of research and development experience in the utility industry and a customer service mindset for engaging stakeholders, Dr. Veda implements utility technology solutions that address a complex web of energy challenges. Santosh Veda is the Manager of DER Management & Technologies Group at Dominion Energy Virginia, one of the largest investor-owned utilities (IOUs) in the country. His team is implementing and operationalizing a full-scale enterprise Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS). He also leads the Company’s technology strategy for implementing FERC and virtual power plants (VPPs) for the distribution company, while exploring new operational models for the electric distribution grid. Dr. Veda is also the Principal Investigator for the DOE-funded GRID-FLEXER project that will demonstrate distribution grid operations with high levels of DERs at scale. DOE awarded $17M to support this project through the Clean Energy Demonstrations program.Prior to joining Dominion Energy, he served as the Manager for Grid Automation & Controls group at NREL, the nation’s premier national laboratory for renewable energy research. In that role, he led a group of 21 research engineers for developing, evaluating and supporting electric utilities with implementation of advanced control technologies such as the ADMS and the DERMS. Before joining NREL, he worked as Research Engineer at General Electric’s Global Research Center where he developed patents and products for electrification across multiple GE businesses. Dr. Veda holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering focused on Bulk Grid Stability from Virginia Tech and graduate certificates in nuclear engineering and leadership studies. He has 6 awarded patents and over 1,200 citations for multiple publications in prestigious international journals and conferences.
