About Santiago Avendano
Santiago Avendano is a senior in the Honors College at the University of South Carolina majoring in International Business and Finance, with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. His academic and professional interests center on law, language access, and public service. He has worked as both a legal and medical interpreter, supporting individuals navigating complex healthcare and legal systems. He is currently conducting research in collaboration with the University of South Carolina School of Law examining access, procedure, and equity within legal institutions, particularly as it relates to language access and underserved populations. He has also contributed to research in the College of Communication Sciences and Disorders focused on language access and minority communities. Santiago is currently preparing to apply to law school and is interested in pathways that combine legal practice, research, and policy to better serve underserved communities. In the future, he also hopes to pursue medical school in order to further work at the intersection of healthcare, law, and public service.
