About Santanu Guha
As an Electronics & Communications Engineering student at VIT, Vellore I find the integrative nature of circuit design similar to the way we make connections in the real world. So, when I am not immersed in the world of electronics, I like thinking about a subject from a broad perspective and placing it in the mental circuit board of time, society, or personal experience. I love bringing together previously unrelated ideas and different perspectives, discover commonalities among them, and connect the dots into a more comprehensive understanding. Just as in a circuit board it’s important to relate the smallest part of the system to the whole, with the increasing complexity of climate, society, ourselves, the post-Covid world, I believe it’s important to come out of our habitual silos and engage in meaningful connection making. The more unrelated the domains, greater is the excitement and the joy I find in unearthing powerful insights. I love discovering connections which may or may not be visible to the naked eye of research because they generally emerge from non-obvious sources. I did a Summer Internship at one of India’s largest advertising agencies to discover connections between Artificial Intelligence and the creative development process. I have started penning down my connection making ideas and experiences. People say that these are interesting reads. I am an avid actor who loves the stage. Especially acting out a story through body motions, without the use of speech. I find that more powerful. And challenging. At the VIT Cultural fest 2020, our mime act won us the first prize. I have a keen understanding of the difference between social action and social work. I prefer the former. Therefore I show up regularly at voluntary blood donation programmes as compared to initiatives that require collective action. We are living in disruptive times and in every ecosystem, engineering or otherwise we need to connect the unrelated dots to solve problems and make discoveries. This to me is my purpose.
