About Sanmitra Sarkar
Dr. Sanmitra Sarkar brings over two decades of industry experience and currently serves as the Senior Director and Global Head of Generative & Agentic AI within the Intelligent Automation Practice at Capgemini. In this role, he leads the strategic adoption and implementation of Generative AI and Agentic AI across both internal initiatives and client engagements.Previously, Dr. Sarkar held key positions at IBM, TCS, HSBC, and Nielsen, where he contributed to a wide range of AI and Advanced Analytics-driven transformations.He has successfully managed individuals of diverse ages, skill sets, experiences, and roles. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated mentor and trusted guide to many of them.At Capgemini, he is spearheading the expansion of his team to over 200 members by the end of 2025. His team comprises diverse roles such as Solution Architects, GenAI/Agentic AI Developers, Project Managers, Integration and Cloud Architects, DevOps Engineers, UI/UX Designers, Business Analysts, and Testing Experts.He and his team have created an Agentic AI transformation strategy for all functional areas of Finance and Accounts, HR, Supply Chain, Marketing, Financial Services by segregating each functional area by L1, L2 processes and identifying Agentic AI use cases and their designs and solutions. He is also actively evaluating low-code/no-code Agentic AI platforms like Copilot Studio, UiPath etc. He possesses deep expertise in GenAI concepts such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Prompt Engineering, Prompt Tuning, and Fine-Tuning.He has led and managed multi-million-dollar projects, PoCs, and solutions in Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Advanced Analytics across industries such as Automotive, Aviation, Banking, Chemicals, Consumer Products, Entertainment, Healthcare, Hospitality, Insurance, Real Estate, Retail, Telecom, Travel & Transport, and Utilities.An IBM Certified Master Inventor, he has filed 14 patents with the USPTO and served on IBM’s patent review board, mentoring numerous first-time inventors. Beyond the corporate realm, Dr. Sarkar actively bridges the gap between industry and academia. He has conducted faculty development programs, student sessions, panel discussions, and workshops at institutions like XLRI, IIFT, IBS, IEM, Techno India, AOT, IMI, and others. His academic contributions include publications in top-rated ABDC and UGC CARE-listed journals, and case studies published in SAGE Business Cases, some of which are taught at Pennsylvania University in the U.S.
