Sankar Datta has over 40+ years experience in Development Sector at as a grassroots as well as policy levels practitioner and an academician. He has deep knowledge of Rural Livelihoods; Farming Systems in India. Management of rural enterprises, especially Farmer Producer Organizations & Economics with special emphasis on Institutional Economics. He is an Management Graduate from 1st batch of IRMA (Institute of Rural Management Anand), with basic training in Agriculture from Pantnagar University and Ph.D in Economics from Sardar Patel University Significant work experience as a practitioner-was in-charge of operations while setting up the BASIX group of Companies, a new generation livelihood support institution-had initiated and headed the first livelihood project of PRADAN, a major livelihood support NGO of India-Was team-leader of the Spearhead Team responsible for promotion of soybean in MP and organizing the network of producer co-operatives, influencing livelihoods of millions; Other professional engagements -Serving on the Board of several institutions - Indian Grameen Services, Sarvodaya Nano Finance Ltd. Village Financial Services Ltd, IndusTree Crafts Ltd. Bharatiya Krishi Samruddhi Ltd, Purbanchal Maitree Development Society-Member of the Advisory Committee of Center for Management in Agriculture (CMA) of the IIM- Ahmedabad -Member of the Livelihood Advisory Group of the Sustainable Livelihoods India Initiative organized by ACCESS Development Services-Member of the Planning Commission Working Group for the 12th Five-Year Plan on MGNREGA.
