ABOUT SANJIB KUMAR BHATTACHARYA
I am Group Captain S.K. Bhattacharya, VM (Retired), born on 26th July 1958, former Indian Air Force officer, commissioned in June 1979 through the prestigious National Defence Academy. I have held command, operational, advisory, and instructional roles within the IAF and the BSF Air Wing. My career also extended into international assignments and senior leadership roles in the private aviation sector post-retirement. I retired from active service on 31st March 2009 but continued my journey in aviation with OSS Air Management Pvt. Ltd, where I served as an Executive Pilot, Chief of Safety, Head of Operations, Chief Operating Officer, and finally as Vice President – Business Development, up until April 2025. Academically, I earned a BSc from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1978 and later completed my Master of Management Studies with distinction from Osmania University in Type-Rated Instructor and Examiner status on aircraft such as the A109C and AW109E/SP, along with simulator training on the AW139. I am also a Qualified Emergency Medical Technician (Basic and Advanced) as of 2024. I have flying experience of hours, including 1,100 by night. I have flown at altitudes up to 5.4 km and carried out missions across all terrains and operational zones in India. My international flying includes missions in Namibia for the Head of State and in anti-insurgency operations, anti-Naxalite, logistics support, troop induction, mercy missions, and VIP duties, during both day and night. Operationally, I have overseen more than 100 helicopters and aircraft in Western and Northern India and played a pivotal role in the establishment and management of helicopter operations for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Central Para Military Forces. During my tenure in the IAF, I managed human resources for over pilots, guiding their placements and career paths from to 2022. I also oversaw selection and training of MHA pilots between 2004 and 2008. I’ve been a Flying Instructor since 1986 and held the prestigious Category A instructor rating. I’ve trained cadets on fixed-wing jets at the Air Force Academy and on helicopters at the Helicopter Training School. I also served as an Examiner for the IAF and have provided training internationally, including with the Namibian Defence Force. In addition to aviation, I have experience with computer systems. Whether leading operations or advising on strategic expansion, I’ve always strived to contribute meaningfully with integrity, passion, and precision.
