ABOUT SANDY MILLAR

After years of working in big, chunky organisations, I\'ve taken a step to the side, developing a portfolio career. I benefit by choosing interesting, creative work, and you benefit by the years of experience I\'ve had in some of New Zealand\'s largest government and NFP organisations. I draw on my skills as a communicator, a coach, a writer, and a photographer to weave meaningful stories during signnificant life events. These range from happy occasions such as weddings and civil unions, to more sombre events such as funerals and end of life commemorations. As well as a Certificate in Celebrant Studies, I draw on many years in education and human resources, and my skills as a coach, a facilitator, a writer and a performer, a photographer, to design powerful and memorable ceremonies. I continue to coach and facilitate on a contract basis, using Whole Brain Thinking (HBDI) and Human Synergistics\' Life Styles Inventory (LSI). I like to work in one-to-one situations, but relish being in front of 150 people. As both a teacher and learner, my focus is on exploring new and innovative ways of doing things, and striving for excellence. I like to experiment with creative solutions, and can be organised when it counts. Although I have an academic background, with over 15 years in tertiary education, I have spent the last twelve years turning my theoretical perspectives into practical applications. I’ve worked with a diverse range of people - students, from certificate to post-graduate level; novice supervisors and seasoned executives; people on the shop floor and those in specialist roles. Over the years, I have learnt how to gauge their needs and meet their expectations. My local experience has been complemented with the design and delivery of workshops in the Pacific Islands, and teaching in Japan. Specialties: celebrancy (marriage, civil unions and funerals); facilitation; coaching (especially HBDI and LSI); writing; photography See my website at
