About Sandrella Morrison-Lanjouw
I am a PHD Candidate at the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) and the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care (UMCU), both affiliated with Utrecht University. I hold a Master\'s degree in Natural Resource Management from VU Amsterdam and a Bachelor\'s degree in International Development from American University. My research focuses on the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases at the animal-human-environment interface along international bushmeat trade routes. I have collaborated with international governments and the private sector to explore the drivers, risks, and impacts of this trade, and have proposed policy and health interventions to help prevent future pandemics. My research has been shared at various international biosurveillance seminars and I have been asked to provide testimony to the Belgian and Dutch governments, as well as the European Commission. My keynote speaker appointments include: United for Wildlife, Airports Council International (ACI) and Basel Institute on Governance. My academic lectures are focused on the importance of tracking and tracing zoonotic diseases along intercontinental supply chains of bushmeat, using a One Health perspective. These universities include University of Sao Paolo, Brazil, UMCU Utrecht, and Amsterdam Medical Center (AMC). My recent consultancy work on this topic is with the WWF and IFAW, in addition to government contracts aimed at quantifying the amount of unregulated African meat entering Europe via numerous border points of entry, and to begin cataloging the pathogens they contain.
