About Sandi L Navarro
As a nutritional biochemist, I study the mechanisms through which dietary components and drugs alter gene expression and other downstream signaling pathways involved in chronic disease. My research involves evaluating intermediate biomarkers of disease risk and alterations in metabolism, including metabolomics, pharmacogenomics, etc. These data serve to provide a comprehensive metabolic fingerprint of the effects of the dietary component or drug being studied, and allow for biomarker discovery. As the Director of the UW NORC biostatistics subcore, I help investigators develop grant proposals, including study design and statistical analysis plans as well as provide sample size determination and power, and oversee the conduct of both standard and complex statistical analyses. I am also involved in a large consortium evaluating biomarkers of dietary intake and statistical modeling to calibrate self-reported dietary intake. Expertise: biostatistics, nutritional metabolomics, high-dimensional data analysis, data interpretation, biochemistry, controlled trials, metabolism, nutrition and gene regulation, nutritional biomarkers, inflammation, computational biology, systems biology, precision medicine, personalized nutrition, bile acid metabolism, obesity, metabolic dysregulation, insulin signaling, ceramide metabolism, dietary patterns, cancer prevention, epidemiology, pharmacokinetics, dietary biomarkers, drug metabolism, leadership, mentorship, fundraising, public health
