ABOUT SANDA NORONHA

Sanda is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a certified EMDR Therapist who brings over 12 years of experience working with adults and youth in community and in-patient mental health, substance use recovery programs, transition housing and emergency housing programs, gender-based violence, and private practice settings. Sanda has also delivered programming and individual counselling services for adults and youths involved in the criminal justice system, forensic psychiatric services, and MCFD (Ministry of Child & Family Development). Her diverse professional experience includes delivering individual counselling for youth and adult clients of all genders, sexual orientation, immigration status, ethnicity, race, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Sanda develops and facilitates online and in-person support groups for survivors of gender-based violence, psycho-educational groups, and training workshops. She facilitates educational training workshops for frontline service providers, crisis line volunteer, community members, and post-secondary students. Workshop and Training topics presented include: Psychiatric Oppression, Feminist Counselling Skills, Supporting Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse, Trauma and Substance Use, Decolonizing and Anti-Oppressive Perspectives to Trauma Therapy, Self-Care for Helping Professionals Experiencing Burnout, and Trauma-Informed Approaches to Facilitating Support Groups for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence. Sanda specializes in working with trauma, complex trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), racial and bi-cultural identity, workplace burnout/chronic stress, anxiety & depression, grief & loss, relational concerns, self-esteem/self-worth, and life transitions. She is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) approved by EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), and integrates a variety of modalities including, mindfulness-based, art-based, somatic/body-centred, narrative, and cognitive behavioural using a holistic and client-centred approach.
