ABOUT SANCHAYAN BANERJEE
Sanchayan Banerjee is an Associate Professor of Economics and Public Policy and inaugural Director of the Behavioural Public Policy Lab in the School for Government at the Policy Institute in King’s College London. He is a visiting fellow of the London School of Economics and an affiliate of Amsterdam Sustainability Institute and the Institute for Environmental Studies in Amsterdam. His research focusses on developing citizen-oriented, participatory behavioural public policies and testing their effectiveness and legitimacy using experiments (field, lab and online) in areas of food policy, energy policy, public health, and charitable donations. Sanchayan has co-developed the NUDGE+ toolkit with Peter John. Sanchayan’s research has appeared in leading multidisciplinary journals including Nature Sustainability, Scientific Reports, PNAS Nexus as well as in field journals such as Brain and Behavioural Sciences and Behavioural Public Policy. He currently sits on the editorial boards of Nature Scientific Reports, Humanities & Social Sciences Communications and PLOS One. He serves as a gust editor for Policy and Society and has been a co-editor of the New Voices Section of Behavioural Public Policy journal. He is the founder and convener of Behavioural Transformations, an annual workshop in Behavioural Science and Public Policy. Sanchayan is a seasoned university teacher with more than 8 years of teaching experience. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) in the Netherlands. He is also an accredited external examiner in the UK. He currently sits on the Quality Board of the VU Amsterdam Summer School, has been part of LSE’s Research Festival steering committee, and has represented both BSc and MSc level teaching programs in university examination boards. Sanchayan has received three consecutive teaching awards at the LSE (20••••22) and two teaching innovation grants at VU Amsterdam (2022, 2023) enabling him to set-up a VR lab to innovate teaching delivery. Sanchayan holds a PhD (2022) and MSc (2018) from the London School of Economics. Prior to joining the Policy Institute, Previously, Sanchayan was a (tenured) Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (20••••24) and a Visiting Professor of Economics at Grenoble IAE (2025).
