About Sana E.

Sana Elyas is a technical leader with over a decade of experience in advanced materials and process solutions across aerospace, transportation, wind energy, infrastructure, industrial, and consumer electronics. At Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), she evaluates and aligns industry partners with core research activities at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF), a Department of Energy (DOE)-designated user facility. Her work focuses on sustainable manufacturing technologies, including additive and hybrid manufacturing, advanced composites, and energy solutions, while overseeing project management for the DOE CMEI AOP for the Composites Innovation Group, while advancing her own research objectives in parallel. For the Tech. Collabs she works on aligning potential industry partners with DOE initiatives in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies, building technology, vehicle technology, digital twin technology, SMART manufacturing, and industrial efficiency within the U.S. industry. Sana’s experience includes leading global projects in structural lightweighting and fostering strong relationships with OEMs and Tier companies across the U.S, Europe, and South Asia. Her background includes leading research and testing activities at the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) and working at a large company and three start-ups, where she honed her skills in advanced composite materials and process solutions. She earned her master’s degree in aerospace engineering with a concentration in structures and advanced composites from Wichita State University, KS, and her bachelor\'s in aeronautical engineering from IARE-JNTU, India. She received the Community M&P and the Young Professional Emerging Leader Awards for her contributions to the field. In addition to her professional achievements, Sana serves as Executive Vice President of the North America Executive Cabinet for the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE) and as a STEM Advisor for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). She is passionate about fostering collaboration and continuous learning, connecting with others dedicated to driving sustainable innovations.
