Sam is a Brisbane- based artist whose creative journey is marked by a blend of precision, exploration and a passion for learning. Drawing since childhood, Sam was naturally drawn to the accessibility of pens, pencils and paper - tools that allowed her to express herself without the mess and uncertainty of other mediums. She prefers the sharp control of ink over the potential smudges and errors of pencil, finding comfort in the permanence that pen brings. This meticulous attention to detail carries over into her professional life as a designer, where accuracy, defined lines and careful measurements are paramount. Her art serves as a balance between these perfectionist tendencies and a desire for creative freedom. Despite her inclination for order, Sam chooses to freehand her sketches, embracing the challenge of creating something permanent. Her process often begins with vague, loose pencil scribbles - intentionally imprecise and fleeting - before committing to the permanence of ink. The act of drawing without a ruler is an important challenge for Sam providing her with a mindful, meditative outlet that allows her to step outside her rigid, structured world. It\'s an ongoing conversation between control and surrender, one that sparks both her creativity and her perfectionist drive. While Sam\'s primary medium remains pen and ink, her artistic practice is evolving. Recently, she has ventured into the world of watercolour and ceramics, drawing inspiration from her heritage. Her approach is not about mastering any one medium; rather, she embraces learning as a lifelong process, choosing to explore a variety of creative outlets rather than striving to be the best at any single one. Her artwork is a reflection of this journey- each piece a careful, yet free exploration of form, texture, and personal expression.
