About Sam Swift

I\'m a master\'s student studying Business Analytics at the University of Iowa, where I also serve as a teaching assistant for undergraduate Business Analytics coursework. I did my undergrad at the University of Arizona, where I got a degree in Finance and minor in Statistics and Data Science. I am competitive, persistent, love problem solving, and enjoy working with people. That all sounds great now, but figuring out my educational path hasn\'t been straightforward. I went into my undergrad very unsure of what I wanted to do for a career, so I declared a business major figuring it would give me a lot of flexibility. Around the winter of my freshman year, I told myself that I would pick a minor in an area of interest. My passion has always been sports, but I didn\'t want to declare a sports management minor. I\'ve always pushed myself in school, and wanted to gain a hard skill that would hopefully set me apart in such a competitive industry. I remembered how challenging, yet rewarding my high school calculus class was, and decided that I wanted to pursue sports analytics. That\'s when I declared a minor in Statistics and Data Science. I\'m a very analytical thinker, and statistics is a fascinating subject to me, so it was a great fit. The only problem was that I hadn\'t taken Calculus I since the fall of my junior year in high school, and I was planning on starting Calculus II about three years later in the fall of my sophomore year. I decided to reach out to my high school calculus professor, and he kindly sent over the last semester\'s worth of online lectures to review over the summer. I spent a large part of the summer after my freshman year watching these lectures in preparation for coursework, and haven\'t looked back since. As I was exposed to data analytics in my coursework, it sparked an interest in how data storytelling can enhance decisions and add value to an organization. At that point, I knew a minor wasn\'t enough and decided to pursue a graduate degree in analytics. Overall, I aspire to apply insights from data into decision making; I would love to work in place where I can make a meaningful impact in the future. Please reach out if you think I would be a good fit for your company and I can pass along my resume!
