ABOUT SAMUEL STREET
I’m currently a third year mechanical engineering student at the University of Waterloo. I have a passion for space exploration, the aerospace engineering behind space vehicles, and robotics proven by my growing experience through both the co-op program and my extracurricular activities. In addition to my growing mechanical toolkit as part of my university’s program, I also thrive in software engineering and firmly believe that they complement each other. I try to walk the line between mechanical and software engineering so that I can better understand the end-to-end nature of a given system so that I can develop better and more intelligent control software. For context, I’ve been programming for a long time, even before high school, and am very comfortable with reading and writing code with various languages. Fortunately, over my co-ops I have had the opportunities to develop a strong intuition of C++ code development. At the same time, I was able to further my knowledge of Linux, especially with regards to embedded Linux and have had the chance to work with different development boards ranging from NXP i.MX 8 family to the Nvidia Jetson AGX Xavier series.Although I aspire to always learn more about programming and embedded systems, my current interests lie in learning how to model and simulate various systems (especially dynamical systems), perform estimation, and design/tune various control systems. I think this is a healthy combination of concepts from mechanical and software and is the direction I’m currently working towards!
