Santa Ana, CA, US

I am currently the 10th grade English teacher, collaborating and integrating with our 10th grade World History course. Our school adopts the Project-Based Learning, PBL, model as it prompts and encourages students to focus on relevant, current events and situations happening around them. With scaffolds, benchmarks, and other activities, we build up into a culminating unit project in which students actively collaborate and work together to create. In addition, I am one of the coaches for our school\'s cross country and track teams. Alongside my fellow coach, we went from a cross country team of new runners to being ranked 12th in CIF-SS D5. Through rigorous practices in the heat and challenging terrain of races, these runners not only formed camaraderie and family within the team, but with other runners as well. I am currently the Key Club advisor at my school, working alongside the club\'s board and committee members to brainstorm and host community service events. Whether it is setting up a canned food drive or writing encouragement notes, Key Club members are service-minded and always striving to leave a positive impact on the community.

ABOUT SAMUEL LEONG

As an English teacher, I hope to encourage and impact my students. I want them to find their own voice and express their own personal and unique ideas through various forms of expression, whether that is media, art, writing, journalism, etc. Rather than having them be cookie-cutter students, I want to motivate my students to be fearless and to break through society\'s standards and norm.
