About Samuel Heilman
On faculty of sociology at Queens College and Graduate Center of CUNY, holding highest rank of Distinguished Professor. I am author of twelve books (all still in print) and numerous articles and reviews. Most recent book, The Rebbe: The Life and Afterlife of Menachem Mendel Schneerson won the National Jewish Book Award. Have for many years served as editor in chief of Contemporary Jewry, the premier journal for the social scientific study of Jewry. I am winner of Marshall Sklare Life Achievement Award from Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry and a fellow of the American Academy of. Jewish Research. I also serve as an adviser for the Legacy Heritage Foundation.Specialties: Lecturer, expert witness, consultant of Jewish and Israeli affairs, expert on Orthodoxy Jewry, frequently contacted by reporters and media for background on the subject,speaker on death, mourning and bereavement.
